St. Anthony's is a Catholic parish within the Diocese of Paterson, staffed and served by Franciscan friars. Like Franciscans worldwide, they strive to continue the Order's 800-year-old mission, bringing the Gospel into the everday experience of men and women through a life in fraternity and compassionate service to all.
Secular Franciscan Order
The St. Anthony Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order meets at St. Anthony Church. The Secular Franciscans, formerly known as the Third Order Franciscans, follow the Rule of Life developed by St. Francis of Assisi for men and women living in the world: "The rule and life of the Secular Franciscans is this: to observe the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ by following the example of St. Francis of Assisi who made Christ the inspiration and the center of his life with God and people" (Rule of the Secular Franciscan Order, chap. 2).
